After a hiatus of several years, I am so excited to see that the The Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix has a new sponsor. Thank you to Global Relay, a local Gastown organization that has brought this exciting and world-class event back to my hood.
If you are not familiar with this bike race, check out the history and some of the truly great racers including Lance Armstrong who raced way back in 1991. And this year is going to be stellar, as some of the competitors will also be heading to the London 2012 Olympic Games. Whistler’s Will Routley and Vancouver’s Ryan Anderson will be back in town after riding in the Tour de Suisse. In the woman’s race look for Clara Hughes, riding as part of the Specialized-Lululemon team.
I encourage you to come down to Gastown, cheer on our local BC and Canadian riders and watch this fantastic race. It is truly exhilarating to stand just inches away from the racers who go as fast at 50km/hour.
