TDF Injuries: Viread, Truvada, Atripla, Complera and Stribild Class Action

Why is TDF Dangerous?

Gilead has come under fire in the past for downplaying the potentially serious side effects of its medications. Today, mounting evidence suggests that the company delayed release of safer HIV prevention medications in order to maximize profits on the highly lucrative Truvada and other drugs containing TDF. Truvada alone accounts for approximately $3 billion in annual sales for the company.

Some of the serious complications consumers have experienced while taking TDF medications include:

  • Kidney disease: People who take TDF may experience a decline in kidney function, damage to the kidneys, and kidney failure.
  • Bone disorders: Loss of bone density associated with TDF can result in osteopenia and osteoporosis (progressive weakening of the bones generally associated with old age). Weakened bones increase the risk of falls, fractures, tooth loss, and other issues.
  • Lactic acidosis: This buildup of lactic acid in the blood reduces the body’s oxygen supply, potentially posing a threat to multiple organs and bodily systems.
