2021, June 7 – Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation

June 7, 2021

Recently, the remains of 215 children were found at the site of a residential school in Kamloops B.C., with thousands of other children still unaccounted. Our thoughts are with Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation, as well as with all Indigenous communities across Canada who continue to mourn this loss. We acknowledge that over seven generations of Indigenous people continue to feel the effects of personal and intergenerational trauma resulting from harms and abuses experienced at residential or days schools. If you are experiencing trauma or need to talk, we encourage you to call the National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at 1-866-925-4419 or the Hope for Wellness Helpline at 1-855-242-3310 or, for online counselling support, visit hopeforwellness.ca. If you are in B.C., you can call the First Nations and Indigenous Crisis Line offered through the KUU-US Crisis Line Society, toll-free at 1-800-588-8717.
