Class Action Filed Against Loblaw for Overcharging on Packaged Meat and Seafood
On July 7, 2025, Klein Lawyers filed a class action lawsuit against Loblaw Companies Limited, Loblaws Inc., T&T Supermarket Inc., and Provigo Distribution Inc. The lawsuit alleges that these companies charged customers for the weight of the packaging when selling pre-packaged meat and seafood products. By including the packaging weight, customers paid more than they should have, contrary to federal regulations and consumer protection laws. It appears this practice has been ongoing since at least 2023. The Defendants have acknowledged some customers were overcharged but have not taken steps to compensate affected customers. The class action is brought on behalf of individuals in Canada who purchased pre-packaged meat or seafood from stores owned, operated, or franchised by the Defendants. This includes stores under various banners such as Loblaw, Provigo , Provigo Le Marche, Valu-Mart, Independent, City Market, Zehrs, Dominion, Atlantic Superstore, Real Canadian Superstore, Fortinos, Maxi, Extra Foods, No Frills, no name© and T&T Supermarket.
If you purchased pre-packaged meat or seafood from any Loblaw-affiliated store in Canada and would like to be kept informed of developments in the case, please complete our Inquiry form below.
